Remember the parade joke? The mother looks at her son, beaming: my boy is the only one in step. Many would have us believe that about America.

Waiting for Paul Krugman's column I watched an English language news broadcast from a Japanese network, another from Germany's Deutsche Welle, and finally the BBC. None offered sensationalism, just details on each story's impact. Video caught Barack speaking to Brasil's Dilma Rouseff, President of the world's 7th largest economy; Angela Murkel towering over a gathering in which she was hard to glimpse; hand gestures appearing to shoo away imploding and expanding economic problems. The visual clues told a narrative of information absent at home.

So when I do hear about Greece I'm easy to scare. Since US news focuses on 7 figure weddings and 72 day divorces, “mobs,” and self-created scandals from the same whole cloth that self invented candidates. Unchecked police powers strike at the constitutional right to assemble gun-free, and at people creating new forms of group work, expression, respect. All while the Republicans tell us their jobs bill is a tax cut for the rich.

Who reports that Brasil moved 31 million out of dire poverty in the last 10 years, growing their economy while increasing taxes and safety net programs? Tell Ron Paul, Boehner, Cantor, and DeMint Keynes is alive and well in an economy growing 4 times faster than the US this year, run by a real socialist.

Who reports owners manage risks, marketing, and cash flow for capital returns. It’s not in their hands to “create” jobs when there is no demand. Capital creates its own wealth and special problems (ask US banks or the G-20), but few jobs. Sure, it's their money, but it's their country, too.

The economic engine is not “job creators.” The state must quit the Grand Deception that macro economy can be managed with militarism and magic wands and stop the deceit that tax and budget cuts to increase wealth really benefit the rest of us who are only given blame.

If only they could listen to Paul and do what he suggests.
