There is no "missed opportunity" by the Republicans in the discussions over reducing the federal deficit despite what some columnists and reporters are saying. Straight forward, undeniable evidence demonstrates that deficit reduction was never their goal.

Why so much talk over the deficit? Because it's an easy red flag, a complex issue easy to strip and reduce to political attack slogans that hide the real Republican cause--the defense of the wealth and income of the oligarchs. Priority number one takes precedence over reducing the deficit. Defending wealth and income is simpy reframed as debt reduction for the legions of the Tea Party. As formidable a force as they are about budget cuts, they are closer to anarcharists about government itself and are indifferent about the public welfare and common good for the people.

Yet it is not the Tea Party group or the freshmen who stand in the way. They are being shrilled as the cause. The real issue is the Party's defense of the oligarchy, its wealth and income, and its goal of installing a political economy which emphasizes the politics of command and control.
