Politics and Palov's Dogs

We are seeing the Palovian conditioning of politics. Substitute Iceland, Ireland, Argentina, or any country that is the flavor of the day. The response is exactly the same: more fear, more belief; more dismantling of rational, fact-based, experience; more ridicule of empirical models; more tsk-tsking at others who are considered outmoded, outdated, and out of the loop and not in the inner zone.

The counter-attacks are on character, not critical assessments.

Beyond its macro-failure, austerity policy has a chance at one big success: a massive transfer of funds to high income special interests as spending--and taxes--are cut.

The downward spiral will reduce employment, benefits, and safety nets with the economic resources going straight into the invisible hands.

For the special interests, touting the strategy across public platforms, austerity will be a success.

The dogs come running every time the bell is rung.
Even if the bowl is empty.

Think about it.

"Pavlov" is a great example, as you have pointed out of the "social conditioning" that is going on around the world, its true. Hopefully, beyond salivating on cue, we can also add reason to our problem solving. Good article.
